Susan Reid-Jones

Mrs. Reid-Jones has a Bachelor of Laws from the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, Barbados (1986) and a Legal Education Certificate from the Norman Manley Law School, Kingston, Jamaica (1988). She is currently the Divisional Director (Ag.) of the General Legal Advice Division of the Attorney General’s Chambers which provides advice for all areas of Central Government, statutory Authorities and agencies. Mrs. Reid-Jones supervises and vets the work of attorneys, and writes opinions on matters ranging from government employee disciplinary matters, death benefits for police officers, various negligence matters, among others. She is also the Solicitor General's representative on the Board of the Legal Aid Council.

Mrs. Reid-Jones began as a Crown Counsel with the Litigation Division of the Attorney General’s Chambers in 1996. In 2003 she was promoted from Assistant Attorney General to Director of the Division and was responsible for the supervision of approximately 16 attorneys and the management of administrative duties. In her role as Director she made daily decisions regarding which matters were to be settled and which should proceed to trial. In this Division, she gained exposure to various matters, including claims for false imprisonment, malicious prosecution, detinue and conversion, negligence matters of all types, including medical negligence. She did pioneering work in the area of HIV infection caused by blood transfusions. She was also exposed to Judicial Review of Administrative action and Court of Appeal matters with regularity. A highlight during this period was her appearance at the Privy Council in London in November of 2003. She continues to assist the Litigation Division of the Chambers, recently successfully defending the Public Broadcasting Corporation in a defamation case.
