Canadian Advisory Committee

About the Canadian Bar Association

After a competitive tender process, the Canadian Bar Association (CBA) was selected to conduct this comprehensive review of Jamaica’s justice system.

The CBA brings to the table extensive experience having delivered justice system reform and modernization programs in 28 countries across Asia, Africa, the Caribbean and Central Europe, since 1990.

Their international expertise include a wide range of justice reform projects, including institutional capacity building, policy and law reform, the administration of justice, access to justice (including juvenile justice, legal aid and community outreach programs), professional skills and substantive law training and public interest litigation.

The CBA’s International Development Group is able to draw on the substantial resources of the CBA’s national and provincial branch offices across Canada. The CBA will bring to the review process highly qualified and respected experts who will contribute professional exchanges, training delivery and program design, and advisory committees comprising specialized expertise during the life of the assignment.

The Canadian-Jamaican linkages will support the transfer of knowledge on matters of process and substance at all levels of project design, implementation and management, thereby developing the Transformation Team’s capacity to plan, evaluate and design review and assessment processes that create broad stakeholder buy-in that will have both immediate and lasting effects.
