The Director of Public Prosecutions, Paula Llewellyn will be hosting the 4th North American and Caribbean Regional Conference of the International Association of Prosecutors (IAP) at the Montego Bay Convention Centre, Rose Hall, St. James from November 2 – 4, 2016. The Opening Ceremony will take place on Thursday, November 3, 2016 from 8.30 am – 10 am. The event will feature prosecutors representing 25 countries from all over the Caribbean Region, United States, Canada and the United Kingdom converging at the Convention Centre from November 2 – 4 to examine and discuss the theme ‘Prosecution and Governance in the 21st Century – Current and Future Challenges to Tackling Cybercrime and Organized Financial Crimes’.
The National Integrity Action (NIA), the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement (INL) section of the US Embassy in Kingston and the Organization of the Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) are collaborating with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions to host this venture which will see The Honourable Mr. Delroy Chuck CD, QC - Minister of Justice, The Honourable Mrs. Justice Zaila McCalla, OJ - Chief Justice of Jamaica, Mr. Julian Robinson, MP - Opposition Spokesperson on Information and the Knowledge Economy, Professor Trevor Munroe, CD – Executive Director of National Integrity Action and Dr. Rasmus H. Wandall – General Counsel of the IAP, take part in the discourse.
As we continue to advance further into the 21st century, there is no doubt that the international community has been confronted with many challenges that affect the good governance, democracy and safety of our citizens as a result of the increased use of technology and cyber-related activities. The impact is far reaching and poses significant challenges for prosecutors, in the execution of their duties.
