UNLIREC Launches Firearms Identification Workshop for Judicial Officers

The United Nations Regional Centre for Peace, Disarmament and Development in Latin America and the Caribbean (UNLIREC) launched a three-day Firearms Identification and Classification Workshop for Judicial Officers on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at the Institute of Forensic Science and Legal Medicine.

Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Hon. Delroy Chuck, KC, MP, delivered brief remarks during the opening ceremony. Mr. Robert Cavese, Director of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement at the U.S. Embassy in Kingston, also delivered remarks.

Also participating in person were Mr. Jason Francis, Senior Policy Adviser at UNLIREC, and Mr. Frank Grosspietch, UNLIREC Technical Advisor. Ms. Soledad Urruela, Director of UNLIREC, delivered remarks remotely in the absence of the United Nations Coordinator.

The workshop, funded by the United States Government, supports ongoing efforts to strengthen the capacity of judicial officers and enhance the effective administration of justice in firearms-related matters.
