Legal Services Unit

Ensure that the Ministry’s Legislation Programme is achieved by researching, guiding and advising on policies that inform the development of the law.

Review, report and provide sound general legal advice and opinions as appropriate on a range of issues including, but not limited to, policy and procedure, contracts, leases, regulatory and ministerial  compliance, intellectual property matters and other miscellaneous issues.


Prepare Cabinet Submissions, Cabinet Notes, Legislation Committee Submission, Drafting Instructions, Legislative Briefs.

Conduct research, provide information, make recommendations, and engage in programs relating to law reform.

Foster the consultative stakeholder process, review reports and papers, attend Joint Select Committee meetings, and take ALL other steps integral to the tabling of legislation in the Houses of Parliament.
